CORUS Five – Consortium Kickoff Meeting
On September 3, 2024, the CORUS Five project (Concept of Operations for European UTM Systems) kicked off with its Consortium Kickoff Meeting at the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub in Brétigny, France. This new initiative builds on the foundations laid by the previous CORUS and CORUS-XUAM projects, aiming to advance the U-space Concept of Operations and address key gaps identified by the U-space community and the SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU).
Key Objectives and Scope
The CORUS Five project is set to tackle several critical areas within the U-space framework, including:
- Advanced Air Mobility (AAM): As defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), AAM represents a significant shift in how air mobility is approached, encompassing everything from urban air taxis to cargo drones.
- Increasing U-space Capacity and Density (U3 Service): The project will work on enhancing the U-space infrastructure to handle higher volumes and more complex operations, making it possible to accommodate a growing number of drones and other UAVs.
- Integration (U4 Service): Focus will be placed on ensuring seamless integration of various U-space services, facilitating smoother operations and coordination among different stakeholders.
Role of ANRA and the Consortium
ANRA Technologies will play a key role in drafting and integrating content from various work packages into the CORUS Concept of Operations v5.0, the project’s main deliverable. This involves collaborating with a diverse consortium to ensure a comprehensive and effective ConOps framework.
Workshops and Deliverables
The project will feature four pivotal workshops to guide the ConOps development:
- Concept Definition Workshop: Establishing a clear understanding of the U-space ConOps scope and objectives.
- Concept Development Workshop: Collaboratively developing the ConOps framework, incorporating feedback and insights from stakeholders.
- Concept Validation Workshop: Testing and validating the proposed ConOps to ensure it meets the operational needs and standards.
- Final Dissemination Event: Sharing the finalized ConOps with the broader community and stakeholders to promote awareness and adoption.
Looking Ahead
The CORUS Five project represents a significant step forward in the evolution of U-space systems in Europe. By addressing existing gaps and integrating advanced concepts such as AAM and enhanced U-space services, the project aims to create a more efficient, capable, and integrated airspace system.
As the project progresses, we look forward to the valuable insights and innovations that will emerge from this collaborative effort, ultimately contributing to the advancement of safe and effective drone operations across Europe.
