ANRA provides UAM capabilities for NASA Grand Challenge

We are happy to announce that ANRA was selected as a partner and airspace manager for the NASA Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Grand Challenge

ANRA is taking part in Developmental Airspace Simulation as an industry partner to test our UAM traffic management capabilities in robust NASA-designed airspace simulations to demonstrate key integrated operational UAM scenarios.

ANRA has been collaborating with NASA and other Industry partners as well as the FAA in the UAS Traffic Management (UTM) space since the start of the industry in  2015. We have been part of NASA’s four year series, known as UTM National Campaign, made up of increasingly complicated technical demonstrations involving small UAS.

In 2019, ANRA took part in TCL4 demonstrations hosted by The Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems in Las Vegas, and the Lone Star UAS Center of Excellence & Innovation in Corpus Christi, TX to confirm that NASA’s UTM system can safely and effectively manage drone traffic in urban areas.

ANRA’s UTM platform has also powered NASA Langley’s project focused on safe drone integration into the National Airspace System (NAS).  Here, the NASA team tested ICAROUS, an autonomous sense-and-avoid flight management system for unmanned systems, as well as Safe-to-Ditch, an autonomous safe landing or autonomous crash management system.

Our collaborative efforts with NASA align with our participation in the FAA’s UAS Integration Pilot Program (IPP), UTM Pilot Project(UPP) as well as our global Remote ID initiatives.  It is exciting to see our past work with small UAS being leveraged for large-scale, advanced UAM scenarios.

Team ANRA is looking forward to continuing to work with NASA and contributing to a safe and interoperable global UAM ecosystem, advancing the industry as a whole!
